LESSON: 6-1-2
Target: teach & practice conversation skills; ABCs
Materials: CD & player; text; Pair Karuta print

Greeting- 2 minutes
Teacher to Students- Listen & Repeat
Hello, Hi, Hey, Howdy, G’day, Good Morning, Hola, Aloha, Bon Jour, Bon Dia, Bon Journo, Ni Hao, Konnichiwa, Anyohasewo, Selamat Pagi (am) (pm-Siang), Shalom, Jambo, Asalamalekum, Zzdrastvet-yah, Namaste.

Janken Fours- Warm-up / Review / Conversation Skills Practice- 5 minutes
Blackboard:
(ABCs in LARGE letters.)
W: Say 3 letters (C A B).
L: Listen & Repeat
Students- Pairs play Janken with 3 partners. Do the conversation each time, then sit down.

SING ABC song, track 3. 5 minutes.
“l m n o p q... Happy, happy, I’m happy, I can sing my ABCs.” (English style)
ALT- Lead the song first time, slowly.
Students- Sing once together slowly, then with CD.
Materials- CD and CD player

ACTIVITY- Pair Karuta- 12 minutes.
HRT & ALT- Take turns calling out a letter. Cross the letter off the blackboard.
Students- In pairs, with different color pens.
Materials- 1 Karuta print per pair

Let’s Listen- Connect the Dots. 12 minutes.
CD- Track 4.
Students-Listen & draw lines to connect the letters/ numbers.
CD- “1-J S E A M T P N B F G H O R Y C. 2-A M G D Y V O I N W S J Q H F U B. 3-W A Y 7 B Q Z C 16 2 N 12 13 19 U G 17 M F W. 4-H 18 R 3 O D 11 K J I 14 L P H”
ALT- 1-It’s Z. 2-It’s W. 3-It’s a pineapple. 4-It’s a rabbit.
Materials-CD and CD player

Telephone Game/デンゴンゲーム 12 minutes
HRT-Tell/Show students 3 letters. Tell them to ALT, too.
Students-Ss in seat rows. Last students get 3 letters from HRT. Front students point to letters on the
blackboard. Rotate teams front-to-back as time allows.
ALT-Check answers at blackboard.

Wrap-Up- 2-4 minutes
(Present common mistakes to the whole class. Write the mistaken point on the blackboard, and ask if anybody can see what is wrong.)
HRT to Students, in Japanese:
-What did we talk about today?
-Were there some words you already knew?
-Did you learn any new words?
-What was fun or interesting?
-What was difficult?
-How can we make that easier next time?

Closing- 1 minute
Students: ‘Thank you! Good bye!’
Teachers: ‘You’re welcome! Good bye!’
