Target: International Letter Systems / Numbers; 21 to 100
Materials: Text; 1- animals flashcards (see text pg. 10-11); Australia Points Map for all students; Interview Bingo prints

Greeting- 2 minutes
Teacher to Students- Listen & Repeat
Hello, Hi, Hey, Howdy, G’day, Good Morning, Hola, Aloha, Bon Jour, Bon Dia, Bon Journo, Ni Hao, Konnichiwa, Anyohaseyo, Sambaino, Kiola, Selamat Pagi (am) (pm-Siang), Shalom, Jambo, Asalamalekum, Zzdrastvet-yah, Namaste.

Janken Fours- Warm-up / Review / Conversation Skills Practice- 5 minutes
Students: Janken 4’s- each Student with 3 other students
Blackboard: W) 1 (3, 5, 7, ... 29)
L) 2 (4, 6, 8, ... 30)

Song- 10 Little Animals- 8 minutes
‘1 little, 2 little, 3 little animals. 4 little, 5 little, 6 little animals, 7 little, 8 little, 9 little animals. 10 little a-ni-mals...(hold up monkey card)...Monkey! (and all students repeat). 1 little, 2 little....10 little a-ni-mals...(hold up bear card)... Bear! Monkey!’ (and all students repeat each animal name in turn.)
Materials- 10 animal flashcards (include from text pg. 10-11: monkey, bear, bird, penguin, tiger, panda, elephant, giraffe; plus 2 more.)
ALT- lead students in singing. After every round, repeat current and all previous animal cards.

O-X Game- How many OO do you have?- 5 minutes
Materials: Australia Points Map for each student.
Blackboard: How many OO do you have?
ALT & HRT: Take turns asking questions to each other, and then to students (if they can do it). Answering teacher MUST SOMETIMES SAY FALSE ANSWER. Ask questions TWICE and students REPEAT. Give only TRUE answers 2nd time.
Students: 1st- Repeat after teachers (How many OO do you have?);
2nd- Raise hands AFTER teacher answers to vote if true or false (O or X).
3rd- Repeat question AGAIN after teacher.
4th- Mark 2 points on Points Map if student guessed correctly.

Activity- 5 minutes
Text: pages 10-11
Materials: Poster of text pages 10-11 to post on blackboard.
Blackboard: How many OO do you see? (Write animal names in small, then later, LARGE letters.)
ALT & HRT: Look at and discuss the Safari Park picture in the textbook.
Ask students: “What animals do you see?” “Where?” “Here?” “There?”
also- “How many bears do you see?” Bears-2; Monkeys-25; Penguin-23; Tiger-11; Panda-3; Elephants-3; Giraffe-2; Birds-32.
Help students to notice that not all the letters are English or Japanese. Bird-Arabic; Bear-Cyrillic (Russia); Monkey-Japanese hiragana; Penguin-English; Tiger-Thai; Giraffe-Swahili.
ALT: Write animal names again in LARGE letters, and ask or point out to students which are the CAPITAL letters and which are the small letters.

Numbers- Introduction- 5 minutes
Blackboard: 1,2,3.... 20. 30, 40, 50,...100. 1,000.
ALT: Lead students in counting, or Listen & Repeat the written numbers to 1,000.
Then, one at a time, write 22 33 44 55 66 on the blackboard and after each number ask students if they can say the number in English. Then write another 2 (222), 3 (333), etc., and lead students in saying the numbers. Last, write commas between the numbers: 222,333,444,555,666.
Tell the students that each COMMA has a name- thousand, million, billion & trillion- and if they can count to 999, with only 4 more words they can say numbers in English up to 999 trillion!
Students: Count along with ALT, Listen & Repeat, say the numbers.

Activity- Interview Bingo- 15 minutes
Materials- Interview Bingo print for each student.
Blackboard: W) How many tigers do you have?
L) I have 22 tigers.
ALT: Read questions from Bingo print for students to Repeat. Then reading each question one at a time again, say each answer for that animal for students to repeat. Demonstrate/explain how to play.
Students: Repeat Q & A patterns after ALT. Circle one answer on each horizontal line. Listen to ALT’s explanation. Ask questions to HRT.
HRT: Answer students’ questions in Japanese.
To Play: All students stand, and make pairs. Pairs Janken. Winner asks the question, Loser answers and Winner marks an X at that position. Students with 5 X’s in a row make Bingo!, and write their names on the blackboard.
ALT/HRT: Congratulate winners and award 1 point for each X on students’ prints (to color in on Australia Points Map).


Wrap-Up - 2 minutes
(Present common mistakes to the whole class. Write the mistaken point on the
blackboard, and ask if anybody can see the mistake.) Or-
HRT to Students, in Japanese:
-What did we talk about today?
-Were there some words you already knew?
-Did you learn any new words?
-What was fun or interesting?
-What was difficult?
-How can we make that easier next time?

Closing- 1 minute
Students: ‘Thank you! Good bye!’
Teachers: ‘You’re welcome! Good bye!’
